Summary of Assessing the Casualty
What we learned in class:
We looked at a few video's. Ms V's Favourtie was the Mr Bean Video - How not to administer first Aid!!!!
We learned how to assess for Danger around a casualty and what that danger might be (water, electricity, poison, gases etc
We looked at checking the Response of the casualty by shouting, shaking and pinching
We now know that we must Send for Help if the casualty shows no sign of responding
Finally we complete the assessment by checking the casualties Airway and Breathing before making them comfortable in the Recovery position or giving CPR if they are NOT breathing.
We have learned how to record our incidents in the Accident Report Book.
We also looked at the best way to prioritise the casualties, should there be more than one at the scene of the accident.
In addition we looked at reasons that the casualty may be unconscious and created a class list, which included SUBSTANCE MISUSE.
Ms V has been using exerts from the St Johns AmbulanceTeaching Pack and some of her own resources to aid our learning.
